To Grow in the Faith and Knowledge of Christ
A Report by Bro William Teo on the Occasion of the 6th Anniversary Thanksgiving of the
Adults Fellowship, 12 February 2011
We would like to thank our Heavenly Father for His faithfulness in sustaining us these last six years. It is our prayer that the Lord will continue to lead and guide us as we seek to grow in faith and in the knowledge of Him!
We have chosen 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” as the theme verse for our Adults Fellowship (AF). May the Lord help us to study His Word diligently and to know Him deeper in our lives that we may glorify Him in all that we do, especially in these last days as we see the nearness of the second coming of our Lord.
The AF is firstly a Word-centred fellowship. We thank God for raising up this fellowship six years ago in February 2005 through the advice and encouragement of Rev Dr Jeffrey Khoo.
At that time, a small group of us were seeking to better understand the doctrinal issues which had led our late beloved pastor, Rev Dr Timothy Tow, to resign from Life BPC in 2003 to start True Life BPC in his old age.
The Lord graciously provided us Rev Dr Jeffrey Khoo to patiently teach us and help us understand the vital doctrine of the verbal and plenary preservation of God’s Word and to answer the many questions that we had.
Thank God that by His unfailing grace and mercy, we in the AF firmly believe in the divine, Verbal Plenary Inspiration (Autographs) and Verbal Plenary Preservation (Apographs) of the Scriptures in the original languages, their consequent inerrancy and infallibility, and as the perfect Word of God, the supreme and final authority in faith and life. Christ and His Word are the solid Foundations of our faith.
We thank God for providing us Rev Dr Jeffrey Khoo as our main speaker and we thank Dr Khoo for availing himself in the midst of his very busy schedule to come and faithfully teach us God’s Word and to help us grow in our faith and knowledge of Him.
We are currently studying the Book of Acts and God willing, after we have completed Acts, we will begin our study of the Ten Commandments in the last quarter of this year. May the Lord help us to be firmly grounded in His Word.We thank God for faithful ministers of God’s Word whom the Lord has raised up and provided.
Thank God for providing Sis Jenny Kan to faithfully teach the children every month. At our AF meeting, both adults and children gather together to sing hymns and study the Word of God. In this way, we hope to teach the children to worship the Lord with the adults at a young age.
Thank God that both adults and children could be fed with the Word of God each month we meet. AFers are also exhorted to attend FEBC night classes to study deeper into God’s Word and to equip themselves for God’s service. Thank God for the AFers who faithfully take the night classes and online courses and some even taking the exams. We pray for more to attend the night classes.
Secondly, the AF seeks to pray one for another. We are grateful to the Lord and thank God that the Lord burdened our hearts to see the importance to have testimony and prayer time after the message.
We would break into groups to pray for the church and for one another at our regular meetings. Thank God through this prayer time, the Lord teaches us to seek Him first in our lives in all aspects and to learn to love and care for one another and to pray one for another.
Thirdly, the AF seeks to be a mission-minded fellowship. Thank God that the AFers could serve the Lord in the monthly door-to-door HDB flats evangelism led by Dn Charles Kan, the Vacation Bible School and the Children’s ministry of the church.
The highlight of the year is our annual Christmas Caroling on December 25th to bring the gospel to our unsaved loves ones and to minister to our brethren’s family members. We thank God for opening three homes for us to minister God’s Word at our last Christmas caroling on December 25, 2010 and for providing Bro Lin Yang to be the speaker.
Thank God for opportunity to reach out to Sis Kuan Tai’s mother to encourage her in her faith through God’s word. Sis Kuan Tai’s mother was baptized in July 2009 by Rev Jeffrey Khoo at her home. Whenever we visit her, she is always so joyful in the Lord. We are encouraged by her faith in the Lord. She now attends Grace Church at Queen Street which has a Cantonese service.
The second home we visited was Sis Agnes Beh’s. Her family was having a birthday celebration on that Christmas Day. Thank God for giving us the opportunity not only to preach to her unsaved relatives but also to have a separate session by Sis Jenny Kan to share the gospel with the many children in the family. It was like a mini gospel meeting held at her home. Though the family members and children were not prepared, the Lord helped us and finally we could settle them down and conduct the caroling and message smoothly. Thank God for every opportunity to preach His Word.
The third home we visited was Sis Qiaoyan’s. Thank God for the opportunity to preach the gospel to her two aunts. They joined in the singing and were willing to listen to the message. We prayed for their salvation.
Last year, thank God we could give love gifts to Baraka BPC, FEBC and Sis Marilyn Nanta in support of mission work.
Fourthly, the AF seeks to have a visitation ministry to reach out to encourage other brethren in the Lord and to reach out to our unsaved loved ones. Thank God that for this year’s Chinese New Year visitation on 5th February 2011, the Lord gave us the opportunity to visit Meng Fai’s mother, Kuan Tai’s mother and Sis Sang Chiew and Uncle Shen Min in Ling Kwang Home. We enjoyed the visitation and praise the Lord for a blessed time of fellowship. Thank God for providing Dn Kwok Whye to exhort from God’s Word. May the Lord guide us in this avenue of service that we might be a blessing to others.
Thank God for providing this fellowship and preserving this fellowship as a means of grace for us to grow spiritually in the Lord. Thank God for this spiritual family that we could support one another in prayer and serve the Lord together. We pray for the Lord to open up more avenues of service as we seek to occupy till He comes!
Testimonies
“I thank God for leading me back to Him in May 2009 when I started worshipping at True Life BPC. Being so new to the church, I thank God for the opportunity to join the AF where I found a group of godly, caring brothers and sisters that helped me settled down comfortably. Besides the diligent study of the Book of Acts led by Dr Khoo, I am especially blessed by the prayer session during the fellowship that helped me learn and grow spiritually. I also found companionships among some of the sisters who attended the FEBC night classes regularly. Through mutual encouragement and God’s grace, we are able to labour on in our studies of God’s Word. Truly the blessings from God are countless and may He continue to watch over the AF as we follow Him faithfully.” Rebecca Chan
“We thank God for establishing and sustaining the AF all these past six years. Though the number of brethren in our group has only increased slightly over the years, most importantly the fellowship and bonding amongst the brethren have been strengthened through the study of God’s Word and the mutual encouragement and spiritual sharing and prayers.
“We thank God for William and his family for their love and hospitality in opening their home for our monthly meetings and not forgetting Sis Jenny who faithfully teach the children during the brethren’s praying session after the Bible study.
“Last but not least we thank God for using Dr Khoo to teach us from God’s Word how He has preserved His Word and kept it pure in all ages; and how New Testament churches were formed through the study of Church History and the Book of Acts. May God bless the brethren in AF and may we continue to be faithful till the end!” Elizabeth Mok
“Thank God for this wonderful ministry in Christ. The AF has been a blessing for me in my walk with the Lord. “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do” (1 Thess 5:11).
“Just as stated in God’s Word, the AF is a fellowship where the brethren encourage one another to serve the Lord in ministries like the Children’s worship, VBS and Evangelism, etc. We also motivate one another to study His words by attending the night classes and online FEBC classes.
“It is also a fellowship filled with love and prayers for one another. May the Lord continue to preserve this fellowship.” Qiaoyan
“Thank God for the AF where we can come together to study God’s Word and pray one for another. Through the study of the Book of Acts, I am much encouraged to see how the Lord in His sovereign will, led and directed the steps of the early Christians. Though they went through fiery trials, God was with them all the way. This is similar to what FEBC had to go through. May we be diligent in the study of God’s Word. For what use is a perfect Bible when we do not study it? May God help us.” Rachel Goh
