PASTORAL CHAT

My Dear Readers

Since we started out at RELC in Oct last year Bro. Joseph Chua has been distributing gospel tracts until now on behalf of our church with indications who we are to bring readers to our 10.30 service.

Now we have Bro. Seow Kim Guan a Lifer and Treasurer of Rehoboth publishing gospel booklets for free distribution which we are adopting for extension of the gospel. They are written from his heart to the heart of the non-Christian. One of the booklets is “Salvation is a Free Gift”. Another is “The Holy Bible”. This is Evangelism which we are stressing every Lord’s Day.

We also believe in a Mercy Fund. Members reading the needs of others are even more forward to designate their offerings to their needs which are a pleasant surprise to them. On our part elders are burdened to pray for their recovery according to James 5:14-16, “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

A sister has designated a substantial sum for use by the present worship service for the extension of the gospel. Another sister has started a Van Fund for Kuantan where Helen Eio leads a monthly team to teach the Children’s Sunday School Class with good results. Our Worship Service can use from the designated sum to help out the Van Fund.

The pastor is head as well as tail of our church. If there have arisen problems along the way, please feel free to tell me for the quickest solution.

You will notice that we have a good number of outside speakers. The arrangement is from me for this is the 54th year I have been speaking to you. For the sake of variety and variety is said to be the spice of life.

SERMONS FROM THE EIGHTPEAKED MOUNTAIN OF BLESSING VIII

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Matt 7:7-8

Do you realise that ‘Ask’ stands for ‘ask’, ‘seek’ and ‘knock’ three aspects of earnest prayer? God is happy like a father to hear His children call on Him. As the Lord’s Prayer teaches us to ask for a day’s provision He now tells us He will provide three meals of wholesome food. 1. Bread and not stone for breakfast. 2. Fish not snake for lunch. 3. Egg not scorpion for dinner (added by Lk. 11:11-13).

What is greater than a father’s love? I have a son who worked as a security guard. During the last few years of retrenchment he lost his job. When he came to see me I readily stretched out my hand to help him. He knows by this that a father loves his son. But when he reads what I write here he will find God loves us even greater. For He sends Jesus His only begotten Son to die to pay the penalty of our sins that we might live and not perish in hell.

“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” Matt 7:12

Confucius has given us a negative statement to this. But I would point out that Jesus says here what he states in Matt. 22:36-40 that “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” To love God and neighbour is to live a life of perfection.

Another way of saying it is “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Matt 7:13-14

The strait gate and the narrow way is shown in Pilgrim’s Progress when Christian came to the foot of the cross where Christ is crucified to pay for the penalty of our sins. The Pilgrim kneeling there suddenly found his burden of sin rolled away and set free. How about you?
