KHAOLAK AHOY!

Early tomorrow morning, 256 campers will fly either Tiger or Jetstar to Khaolak, Thailand, for True Life BPC’s 10th Annual Bible Camp, June 10-14, 2013. Pastor will speak on the theme “Faith Alive” taken from the Epistle of James. The seven theme messages are: (1) Faith Tried and Tested (Jas 1:1-12), (2) Faith and Obedience (Jas 1:13-21), (3) Faith and Charity (Jas 2:1-13), (4) Faith and Works (Jas 2:14-26), (5) Faith and Speech (Jas 3:1-18), (6) Faith and Separation (Jas 4:1-17), (7) Faith and Life (Jas 5:1-20). Here’s Pastor’s word to all campers as found in the camp handbook:

“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also” (James 2:26).

Is your faith living and lively, or is it dead or dying? I trust your faith is alive and well. We have all come to this Christian camp because we are members of the family of Christ. We know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, and we want to learn how to live our life for Him especially in these very last days before He comes back.

We are True Life BPC. We are not called True Life for nothing. True Life was the name given to us by God’s providence. The Lord wants us to believe in Him and live for Him. Indeed, we have true life because we have true faith. We truly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Holy Scriptures, for our Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb 13:8) and His Word is 100% perfect without any mistake (Ps 12:6-7, Matt 5:18, 2 Tim 3:16).

It has been 10 years since we became True Life BPC. Our God and Saviour has been very good and faithful to us. But have we been faithful and true to Him? Let us search our hearts during our time of biblical meditation and spiritual reflection here in this camp.

May each one of us find true life and true rest for both body and soul during our time of physical and spiritual retreat here in beautiful Khao Lak, and may we return home with a grateful and thankful heart, and with a faith that is truly alive for Christ.

Rev Lee Kim Shong and Rev Koa Keng Woo will minister to the Chinese congregation, and Rev Stephen Khoo, Rev Errol Stone, Rev Nguyen Gia Hien and Rev Biak Lawm Thang will speak in the morning devotions. Missionary reports will be heard from Dr and Mrs Wee Tiong Soon who serve the Lord in Kemaman BPC in Malaysia, Thang No who oversees the orphanage work in Yangon, Myanmar, and Bai Eun Young our missionary to Kenya who teaches at the Bible College of East Africa, Nairobi.

Since our Bible study sessions are held in the mornings and evenings, there is ample time in the afternoons for physical rest and recreation, sightseeing and outings, and enjoy the beauty of God’s Creation. Elephant trekking and bamboo rafting are but two of the recreational activities planned for the afternoons.

Khaolak Seaview Resort is a beautifully landscaped and family- friendly resort located in the quiet beach town of Khaolak. It was badly hit by the Tsunami of 2004, but has since been rebuilt. We will visit the tsunami memorial and the sea turtle conservation centre nearby.

Please pray for journey mercies and for a blessed time of learning from the Lord and from His Word, and pleasant fellowship with one another. We should all be grateful and thankful for the life that the Lord has given to us. JK

PHNOM PENH BIBLE- PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Sun Sokha & Nam Soon

Our church started right away after we left Phnom Penh Thmey Community Church, just two weeks before Christmas Day 2012. The Lord has opened the door for us to start a house church. We had only my family, my mother, wife, two kids and two students from Battambang. After a few weeks one of the two students did not join us anymore. It made my heart very painful and I felt like God did not want to use us.

Despite my discouragement and doubting to serve the Lord as a full- time preacher, the Lord opened the door for me to study His Word through the online courses of FEBC. Through each lecture and heavy load of assignments, the Lord has blessed and given me the assurance of the call to reach out to lost souls. So I decided to start a Bible class in the evening. Two faithful students came to study. We use Theology for Every Christian as our study book. Though it is hard to understand for me and the two students, we do our best and are blessed together. And now we have four students coming every evening to study the same book. Their faith started to grow a lot.

Through evangelism, the Lord has blessed us with more youths and young adults who come and worship the Lord with us. Of course some have already believed in the Lord Jesus before and because their leader left them for his sabbatical, they decided to worship with us for they are as sheep that have no shepherd to take care of them.

Every Sunday after service, we have one of our best times because all or almost all of us would have a small snack fellowship and then Bible study for almost two hours. Although this time, 10.40 am to 12.30 pm, is a hungry time, we study and learn from the Word of God together. It is a joyous time we have every Sunday. The students ask a lot of questions. When the questions are answered, they are blessed and filled with joy as the living water flows within their hearts. This is one thing that I felt I was really blessed by the Lord, though I do not deserve it. We are praying that the Lord will use us to teach them well with the Word of God and then train them to evangelise their friends and people around.

Please do keep the Lord’s ministry here in your prayer. Pray that the Lord will put more zeal that we would prepare well to teach the whole counsel of God’s Word to His precious sheep. I start to realise once again that when we surrender our all to Him, He will open His best way and work in our lives.

We decided to put our church name as “Phnom Penh Bible-Presbyterian Church”. We earnestly prayed for it.
