An Open Door That No Man Can Shut
(A testimony by Sister Jenny Kan on how the Lord saved Miss Lee Wai Heng)
Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ said in Revelation 3:7, 8: “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it….”
How I praise and thank the Lord for His wonderful work of salvation in my niece Wai Heng. She had battled cancer for the last ten years and during that time she heard the gospel but decided that it was not time for her to believe in Jesus Christ. I was at the Church camp at Mersing this year when I received an SMS from my sister telling me that Wai Heng was in the ICU at Singapore General Hospital and that she had been on dialysis due to kidney failure, a complication arising from the treatment she had undergone for her lung infection. I was informed that the doctors would take her off the dialysis and that would mean she would die very quickly. I prayed to the Lord and asked Him to preserve Wai Heng if it was His will to save her.
On the Saturday after returning from camp, I visited her at the hospital and continued to pray that God would open a way for me to talk to her alone. It seemed impossible to have a word with her since all the family members were there, wanting to spend some time with her. Nevertheless, I prayed for the Lord’s will to be done and remembered the open door the Lord Jesus Christ talked about that no man can shut. After waiting for about an hour, the doctors
came out and told the family that they could not see her and could only do so sometime later. The family members then decided to wait outside where they could sit and chat. I was very anxious because I had to leave to pick up my mother-in-law, yet my heart just could not go. I called out for the Lord to help me, to give me an opportunity to see her and prayerfully she would be lucid and remember me. By the prompting of the Holy Spirit I decided to enter the ICU once again, as I neared her cubicle, a doctor came out and he asked me who I was. I told him that I was family! He nodded and said that I could see her for a while. How my heart raced and praised the Lord, I put on the gown, gloves, cap and mask at lightning speed and dashed in with my sister following close behind. Praise the Lord, she was awake and when I called her and told her who I was behind the mask, she nodded to say she knew it was me. Remembering what our late beloved Pastor Timothy Tow had taught us, I wasted no time with small talk but went straight to the gospel and told her that she was alive because Jesus wanted to save her soul. I went through the gospel once again with her, and asked her if she wanted to ask Jesus Christ to save her and be her Saviour; she nodded her head vehemently. By God’s leading, I told her to say in her heart the salvation prayer which I would teach her to pray; again she nodded her head, despite the tubes going in and out of her mouth. So I led her in prayer and after that I asked her if she had said the prayer in her heart, she nodded, and if Jesus Christ was her Saviour and Lord, she nodded again. I said ‘Amen’ and at that moment a nurse came in and told us that we had to leave. The last thing I told her was to call for Jesus whenever she was afraid; then we left.
The family members were of course very surprised that I got to see Wai Heng while they sat outside. It was then I looked at my watch and realised that I was with her only for about five minutes and yet this door which the Lord Jesus Christ opened could never be shut to Wai Heng. Later that evening, she had to undergo another procedure, the next morning while my
family and I were worshipping at True Life, I got the message that she had gone home to be
with the Lord. Praise the Lord, for those whom He has chosen before the foundation of this
world will never be lost; He will save to the uttermost.
I thank my Lord Jesus Christ for the privilege to see His wonderful work of salvation in the life of Wai Heng and I pray for my sister who was in the cubicle with me, that God’sWord will convict and convert her too in His time, for salvation is of the Lord. Praise the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY!

Support for Bible School Students
Dear Dr Khoo,
Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus. I am a friend of Daniel and Sylvia Chew and Dr and Mrs S H Tow. I have been greatly blessed through reading about God’s blessing on the B-P ministry.
I am especially interested in the Bible Schools which your church helps to support, and would like to know more about them. I am sending you five hundred dollars ($500) Canadian. Could you please give one hundred dollars to a poor student in each school?
I grew up in the Great Depression and had to leave home and work from Grade III on through all my school years. I was very poor, and know what it is like.
Thank you for ministering to my soul through your writings in Dr Tow’s newsletters, and in the RPG.
I would appreciate your prayers for my health—serious, complicated problems show on the Cat Scan and other tests.
The Lord enables me to continue to sow seeds, and to rejoice in His mercy and grace.
Lovingly in Him,
Gladys MacLean

Remembering FEBC
Respected Dr Khoo,
Christian greetings from Philip Cherian.
I want to thank you for sending to me the True Life BPC Sunday bulletin every week. Last week’s (September 13, 2009) bulletin was another reminder of the purity of God’s Word. A month ago I had preached a sermon in JMBC chapel from Psalm 12:6-7 entitled “The Unchanging Word in a Changing World.” I raised the uniqueness and purity of God’s Word to the congregation.
I hope in FEBC everybody is keeping well. We are praying for FEBC and its ministry. May Almighty God preserve it to train many young men and women from around the globe in the days to come. I gratefully remember the training I got from FEBC.
In JMBC we are keeping well. Now I joined Madras University for MPhil in Christian studies.
Please convey our regards to all the faculty members, staff and the present student body.
In His glorious service,
Philip and Family
