Family Bible Fellowship

Testimonies of how FBF members have been blessed by the Word of God and the fellowship of the saints

Helped Us Grow Spiritually

Bernard Tee

We are thankful to the Lord that True Life BPC can have this ministry where we can meet every month at member’s home to study God’s Word together. We thank God for sustaining this ministry for the past 6 years and He is faithful in providing us with His servants to preach to us every month. We are thankful to the Lord that we have learnt many wonderful lessons which helped us grow spiritually.

Messages for most of our meetings are focused on family values. By attending the Family Bible Fellowship (FBF), it also encourages families to have their own family worship and pray together as a family. This will help to bring up our children to grow in their faith and the saving knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We also share among ourselves the goodness of God and encourage one another in the faith.

For the first seven months of this year, our theme was on Christian Living, based on the book of James. We thank God for providing us with Bro Lagapa, Dr Paul Ferguson, Rev Quek Suan Yew and Rev Tan Kian Sing to bring us God’s Word every month. From August onwards, our theme is Eschatology with Rev Das Koshy as our preacher.

We also have a children’s programme. We thank God for providing good teachers to teach the children. These teachers are Sunday school teachers in True Life, and we thank God for their labour of love.

My family have been richly blessed from attending the FBF. Not only did we learn much from the Word of God, we also found sweet fellowship with the rest of the families during our meetings. The messages have helped us to grow as a family, especially with regard to our individual roles. We have also learnt to put God first and have grown closer to Him. Our faith has been strengthened and our love for Him has been renewed. Instead of spending time pursuing worldly pleasures on our Saturdays, we look forward to these monthly meetings where we can fellowship with like-minded brethren and pray for one another.

To Be a Godly Wife and Mother

Eunice Wong

FBF started when our church True Life was about 1 year old, with just 4-5 families attending the first meeting. It was a warm and cosy fellowship group as we had about 10-20 people attending the fellowship. Our kids were very young then and we all looked forward to the monthly meetings, firstly to hear God’s Word and then the dinner makan prepared and brought by each family. The young kids looked forward to Bible stories and playing with their friends after the meetings.

Over the years, we have been blessed with good and faithful speakers. For one year, the messages were based on the verse “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it” (Ps 127:1). Once we had a series of marriage and family related messages by Elder William Seah. He expounded on God’s Word relating to marriage and family issues and illustrated with lively examples. I was much blessed by the messages faithfully preached, and realised that I had lived my role as wife and mother based on wrong and ungodly notions I had in the past. May the Lord help me to be a godly wife and mother!

I have personally benefited from attending the monthly fellowship and listening to God’s Word preached through various speakers over time. Thank God my 2 boys continue to look forward to attend FBF every month. Although they are not yet teenagers, sometimes I ask them to join in the adult sessions so that they will hear some of the messages which they can relate to. It is my prayer that my kids will remember the Bible lessons they have heard and bring with them wherever they go as they grow up.

Treasure the Warm Fellowship

Lagapa Family

When we first heard about the FBF of True Life BPC, we were hesitant to join right away being strangers. However, we were interested in the topics discussed in their monthly meetings. We thank the LORD for giving us the courage to start attending in the later part of 2009. Indeed, we are greatly blessed by the messages which focus on family relations, bringing up children in the Biblical way and the fundamentals of the Christian faith.

We also treasure the warm fellowship with fellow Christians who welcomed us like we have been with them for a long time. We thank the LORD for the members who helped us a lot to adjust quickly here in Singapore. We know that the prayers of fellow believers are the sources of strength and comfort in times of trials and hardships in our life here. We praise God for showing to us His goodness and lovingkindness through the brethren in the fellowship. Their spiritual support and friendship mean a lot and are part of God’s wonderful blessings we have experienced in this land.

We are praying for the FBF to continue as a blessing to other families in the church. May it especially be a refuge for families of foreign students in the Far Eastern Bible College.

Rich Learning Experience

Elizabeth Mahadevan

My journey to the FBF; After the home going of my beloved husband the late Elder Eric Mahadevan, I was lonely, depressed and lost. The Lord has been good to me in providing the ‘Tee’ family to take me to the FBF meetings everymonth.

At the FBF my spiritual health was fed by the faithful speakers like Rev Prabhudas Koshy, Rev Quek Suan Yew and others. It has been a rich learning experience for me.

Three weeks into attending the FBF, I wanted to quit, as I noticed that all its members were young couples. I was the only widow and felt like a ‘fish out of water’ and uneasy. The Lord touched the hearts of the members and they made me feel wanted and went that extra mile to take me into their fold. I thank my Lord for this privilege and hope to remain with FBF always.

Why attend FBF?

Mrs Chan Kay Heem

My family and I joined the FBF about 3 years ago at the invitation of several sisters-in-Christ. At that time, I did not appreciate the importance of fellowship groups and therefore, it was only an optional Christian activity that I would participate in if my schedule permitted. ‘Surely, the Bible did not mandate fellowship meetings?’ so I thought. Well, God was gracious and longsuffering towards my ignorance. Progressively, through the working of the Holy Spirit, I learned the truth of God’s Word.

The devotions in the RPG (Read, Pray,Grow) a few years ago led me to reflect on the hostility and deprivations Christians would face in the ‘last days’ and on how I could possibly remain steadfast when persecuted (2 Tim 3:1, 12-13, Rev 13:16, 17). While reading of the death threats Paul suffered and of his escape in a basket lowered by fellow Christians at night in Acts 9:24-25, I was struck by the importance of fellow believers’ help and support in sustaining the Apostle Paul. If the Apostle Paul had needed like-minded brethren’s support, could we need it less? Then I realised that that was what Fellowship Groups were for—for believers to gather together to provide mutual support and encouragement in the faith that we may remain true to the Lord in peaceful and tumultuous times.

I thanked the Lord for helping me understand this truth. Having learned the lesson, attending FBF became purposeful and my priority. Let us take heed of the Apostle Paul’s urging in Hebrews 10:25 not to forsake “the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Isn’t this God’s mandate?

Come and Join Us

Steve & Alice Chng

We praise and thank God for the FBF where we can gather as a family to study God’s Word and have warm fellowship and get to know many other families in the household of God. Truly, “how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Ps 133:1).

We thank God for sustaining the FBF thus far with faithful preachers who fed and nurtured us with solid spiritual food! May the Lord continue to help and keep the families faithful to His Perfectly Inspired and Preserved Word of Truth as they grow in the grace and knowledge of the Word of God.

We pray that, God willing, many more of God’s children will come and join us to search the scriptures, pressing on for Christ and have fellowship, one with another in the Lord. May all Praise and Glory be to God!
